Money Lei

This is that time of year again..when the weather starts to get warm, and the winds pick up...and the sun comes out and we all start thinking...."IT's Graduation time!".  HA!

I am busy working on leis again, and this year, I am doing a couple of different ones.  This one is a Money Lei.  I am using Stampin' Up's large Scallop Circle die to cut my cello.  It is a bit small for quarters but it does work!  My friend made one using a tupperware lid to cut them for her lei that she gave to my daughter 2 years ago...but I wanted to try to make it with the Stampin' Up! die!  (it is so fast cutting them this way! OMG! I cut all the cello in about 20 minutes!)

I cut strips of cello off the roll of cellophane (from a party store or big box craft store).  Each strip was at least the width of the scallop circle.  I then folded the cello in half and then into thirds. Each strip then was placed on the die and I could cut 6 scallop circles at a time!  I needed 80 circles, so it was a snap to do all 80 circles!

Place the quarter in the center of the scallop circle.  I lifted the cello in this photo so you could see that it is cello and not paper (it looked like a blue scallop circle when it was flat, so I wanted to be sure you could see how it looks!)
Then you scrunch up the cello.  Wrap the ribbon (organza ribbon is nice and light).
Make your bunches so that they alternate or show off the colors that you need for the graduate - school colors.  In this case, it is red and blue. I used blue cello and mostly red ribbon but with some of the with blue ribbon. I ended up using 2 rolls of red, and 1 roll of blue ribbon (approx 6 to 10 yards) in each roll.  (12 yds total of red, and 10 yds of blue)
After you have the coins all wrapped up, this is what they look like.
To attach them together, you wrap 2 thin ribbons together, and tie it.  Tie the next wrapped quarter, making sure you get the ribbon below the tied ribbon. Make a double knot after each quarter and making sure each quarter is securely attached.

 1st knot
 2nd knot
This is what it looks like as you're going
underneath you can see the quarters.
Voila!  Here you go with the Money Lei
not a bad gift for a graduate!
You can attach paper dollars on as well to accent if you want to gift more $$ or, you can use Silver dollars!!!  Whoo hoo!  I would want to get that gift but I think a visit to Las Vegas might need to be done first to get that many Silver dollars! (and think of how heavy it would be..this is pretty heavy and it is only quarters!)

One sheet wonder

I love the new In-Colors.  The green card is GUMBALL GREEN.  The Pink is Primrose - Yellow is Starfruit. (it has a greenish cast to it, which is growing on me...sort of).
Ok, the colors might take some time getting used to but they are so nice to stamp with. THE NEW ink pads are WONDERFUL!  You can stamp such nice clean images!

Look for the NEW ink pads in the Catalog!

Versatile Basket

At the Spaghetti factory, Iris Tamashiro demonstrated how to make these baskets quickly and easily!  I was fascinated at how quickly she cut the papers after the score lines were place..and then assembled the basket!  Each Basket was decorated so quickly and uniquely!

Don't you think they were fun baskets?  We'll be making these at one of my next events!  Be sure to RSVP your place!!!  (click here!)

Paarty Animal!!!

It's Jackson's birthday today..and so I decided to use my SOON to be RETIRING paper BIG TOP BIRTHDAY to make a cone hat for my buddy JACKSON!  He's staying with me for the weekend, along with his buddy Bode.
To make the hat, I cut a 12x12 paper into a 1/3 round circle cone shape.
I glued the edges together.
I then punched holes using my crop a dile (RETIRING!)
I wonder what they're going to come out with that will take it's place!
This tool is phenomenal!

I punched out 6 petal flowers and wetting them to make them flexible, I put them together to make this carnation...it looks like a carnation, right?
But for this project, it's a POM POM..trust me..POM POM!
So...I added the ribbon to make ties
I know...he looks miserable...and he shook it off..but PAAARTY ANIMAAL!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY JACKSON!!!!
