Pillow Box Treat

Wow today is the last day of September! I can't believe how fast it has gone, and yet, to a 16 year old, school is just a D--R--A--G! lol

Well perceptions are such that you are deceived by just the visual of looking at something and not seeing potential!

The pillow box is small. It is too small for a gift card. So, what good is it to buy it? Well, don't let the size fool you!

You can do much more if you look beyond the size and try something different. This is using 2 pieces of Designer paper. I had 2 small pieces, so I put them together on the die and they were both short. I made sure the edges were straight, and then ran it through the Big Shot.

I used the CREASE pad ** (very important, and 1 shim!)

Adhere the edges together, by overlapping the pieces by just 1/2" or so.

When you assemble the box, this is what it will look like. Fill your box with your favorite treat, like m&m's or Hershey candies or... Money - CASH? lol

Decorate with your favorite ribbon and
Vanilla Hardware

See!, you are only limited to your imagination!

Halloween treats

What is Halloween to you?
Well Halloween always means the warm fall air, with cooler nights than summer. Breeze that blows but not too gusty, and of course, costumes, and candy! We think of candy at my house, not just during the fall or Halloween, but all year around. Hey, you can't get tired of chocolate, can you?
Well, I was searching all over for a box pattern for Hershey's Minatures. Do you know, that there isn't a pattern for this? I guess I will have to make up a tutorial for this. They have them for the nuggets, but not minatures.
So, stay tuned, and I will get it together. But, for the meantime...this is my box for Halloween treats!
I had some extra small pieces of designer papers, ie: HAIKU and so I thought I would try to use up some of these smaller pieces to cover the candy!
These pieces are 1 1/2" x 3" (approx). You take the piece, and then put a little snail at one end, and then wrap it around the miniature Hershey's chocolate.

Wrap it all the way, and then place it in the box with the other candies!

After all your candy's are covered, this is what it will look like.
Well, you can't see what is inside of them which makes it nice because if you're like my family, we've already eaten the MR. GOODBARS and the KRISPIES Chocolate ones....so all that's left are just the milk chocolate and the dark chocolate...gggg!!! SHHHHH!

Decorate the top of the box, and slide the cover over the box, and it is all ready to give to your special TRICK or TREATERS....I'm giving them to my co-workers...!
Hey did you know that Chocolate doesn't cause tooth decay? I read it in a dental journal. It has something in it which doesn't cause the tooth decay..but of course, it is better dark (which I love dark chocolate too) than milk chocolate which has more sugar added to it.....
Well, don't forget to floss and brush after eating your candy! (that's the dental hygienist in me telling you to take care of your teeth!)

Happy October! Stay tuned for the box tutorial!

Getting more from your stamps

I started a couple of years ago, varnishing my wood. I never really cared if the wood got stained, I just felt it was 'well loved'. But, when I sold the stamps, after they retired, it really didn't look as appealing. Would I want to buy a stamp set that had lots of icky black stain on the wood? I would sand off as much as I could, but still. So, now, I used Varnish (from the local craft store) and it is quick, dries fast, and just adds a little protection to the wood. I squeeze out a little, brush it on and let it dry.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I wanted to use my Simple Birthday Thanks, but I don't need to use the words. Rather than use my marker every single time, I decided to cut out the words
I carefully cut out the words and lines from the inside of the cupcake.
Trimming all the way around. Now I am going to mount this to the wood, but leaving the backing on the word part, I can add the words to the stamp as I need it, or remove it to stamp without the words.
This way, I get double use out of this stamp!!!
Just a Sad Note in Passing....
My dog Rockie, aka Destructo -dog, died today. We're really sad and we miss him, his crazy, zany happy, scared out of his mind at fireworks, my neighbor's golfing habits, and chasing cats......
He gave us 3 1/2 years of love and kisses, and we were finally getting him trained to be a great dog.....
We'll miss you Rockie...we love you...
Stampin Again....!
Well I am full of apologies, but it is good to get back to a week that will be "normal". I have been under the weather, working all week long, and doing too much getting ready for the class I had this last week, Challenge samples, and class samples, and volunteering to make quilts now....
HA~! I have to laugh, because now that my daughter is a Junior, I don't think it will be "NORMAL" for a couple more years.
This Card is for a Pop up class I am doing this next weekend!
I had to come up with a couple of samples, and one sample I can't show you yet because it's part of a challenge....
But this one will work. I have done this a while back but it is always refreshing to come back and re-do something using new stamps and in a fresher light!
This is a surprise pop up card, that when you pull the sides it will reveal a message or just has more interest than "opening a card" brings. The flight of the butterfly set is so cute with this and I am so hooked on these little flower 3 punch!!!
You'll have to stay tuned for the next cards coming up...soon, I promise. I will be better this week!
SPECIAL for HALLOWEEN!
Do you want to get ready for the Halloween/Fall?
One of the new things that Stampin' Up! is doing is HOME DECOR. But this doesn't limit you to Home Decor only!
1-2-3 Stamp!
One more for the 1st LNS Challenge!
I am apologizing for not posting much lately. I have been working every day, and not being able to catch up...!!
plus..it doesn't help being under the weather!
but, I did get this one done earlier, just didn't post it to the blog.
This uses the Baroque Motif, and basic black cardstock, brushed silver, and whisper white. I also used ribbon, and the 1/2 pearls from the Pretties kit.....
It is very simple and the punch that I used was the 3 blossom punch...which I am really diggin' on! They are so cute!! I might just have to make more things out of the collection I am gathering!
LNS Challenge...Punch your way to a 1-2-3 Card!
Wow...what a challenge...
Have you done swaps before, and had it all ready in mind what you wanted to do, and then just sat down and did them? no problem, right? What if you had to stick with guidelines...and had to make something with 1 stamp set...no problem if you signed up for that swap...
But what if you get 7 (plus 1-like Vivian) who are all super stampers, and they come up with a challenge that you can only use 1 stamp set, 2 Embellishments, 3 Colors and unlimited punches........??????
BRAIN FREEZE!!!
Well, that's what I had. I think I just froze. What do I do, how can I come up with something that will satisfy the challenge, and yet, be as creative as they are? What if I am not up to the challenge and what if I CAN'T DO WHAT THEY ARE SO CREATIVELY doing?????
YIKES! Am I in over my head?????
I started with the usual punches, and stamps. I punched out a few ovals with the small oval in the Bella Rose DSP...and then I made this cute pinafore..
using 1 stamp set, Heard from the Heart
2 embellishments, Brads, and ribbon
3 colors - Kiwi Kiss, Riding Hood Red and White
Punches (LOTS of punches!) Sm Oval, 1 1/4" Square, Word Window, Blossoms 3 punch
Ok,....got my feet wet. NOT an original thought, but at least it satisfied the challenge and i was able to breath! ...and I did something that I saw that I wanted to make for myself! (so, it satisfied 2 challenges!)
So, now...to come up with a card with my OWN ideas...
What to use...well, I was looking at Move my way, and the arrows. What will they be ?
As I was playing with the punch, I accidentally punched just the triangle, and then it fell over the other arrow, and ....it looked like a birdhouse!!!
So..this card was formed.
Requirements met!
1 Stamp set: One of a Kind
2 embellishments: ribbon, brad
3 colors: Kiwi Kiss, Chocolate Chip, Vanilla
For all you LateNIGHT Stampers...get your challenge on!
See what you can come up with!!!
it is fun to see what you can do...believe me..It is fun to be stretched and to grow!!!!
Design Team who thought up this torture (er...challenge) was Kevin Theesen and Gretchen Barron...and please keep Gretchen in your prayers...she came home from church with her basement flooded, and she lost her swap cards from convention, and possibly more damage to computer, home and supplies......!!
Makeover Card
Today's post is a makeover challenge given to me by my daughter. She got this cool gift card from her favorite aunt, and for her favorite store......(which I can only buy the SALE clearance items..mind you!!!)
It is a cool different gift card envelope!
To make this, I used a sheet of cardstock 8 1/2 x 11
I cut the cardstock so it measured 10" long, by 8 1/2 "
Scored at 3 3/4" , 7 1/2" -1" left over
and then 1" on the other side, for the end.
Cut the center on the diagonal, and then you will leave the 1" flap in the center for the end to close to make the pouch.
The insert is 2 pieces cut
9" x 3 1/2"
11 "x 3 1/2"
I attached the 2 pieces to make the card to fit into the pouch and decorated with Designer Papers from the Bella Rose and the Stitched Exotics stamp set and the Flower Fusion (felt flowers...YOU GOTTA see them, they are really so nice!)
Have fun with this makeover...what else can I find to make over??? hmmmm
Birdhouse 3D card
I got this pattern a LONG time ago, from convention probably in the last century...lol
Well, it was only in 1997, from Terri Blackwell. I actually made birdhouse pins, when we used to swap pins...at convention. I actually put all these little birdhouses together, and then had some silk ivy and ...yadda yadda..
Anyways...I had some printed on some kraft cardstock, and had them stuck in a baggie, and found it today!...so I decided to make a card using the birdhouse on the card.
I punched out the hole using the 3/4" circle punch
I assembled the birdhouse, and stamped it with the ivy thing from FRESH NOTES in Always Artichoke
The roof is a strip of Always Artichoke that is corrugated, and to put the little post thing that the bird sits on, I used a shiskabob stick and cut off a section, and used glue dots on the inside of the birdhouse. I took a photo of it so you can see, it is just stuck to the glue dot inside.I might be able to scan the pattern, but I will have to see if I can get it to be at 100% rather than be a huge birdhouse......
If you've been wondering why it has been so quiet for me, I have been working on my challenge for LNS (Latenightstampers). It has been interesting, and this actually is a reject for that challenge....but I was having fun making it, and it still needs the brads in the corners.....(I tried unsuccessfully to crop it out..but you can see the little holes punched in the corners..oops!)
I hope you like my birdhouse card....(It used to be the RAGE in the late 90's....sigh....)
sort of a blast from the past....
Flight of the Butterfly Autumn
Autumn is here, so I thought I better try changing my colors. Out with the spring summer colors, and bring on the fall. I am glad that we don't live where the seasons change so drastically. We get subtle changes to our weather here in Southern California! I still went swimming today in the pool! (It is that hot today!)
I am really enjoying my BIG SHOT! I love the TOP NOTES die cut. I think out of all the dies, this is one of my favorites. I hope SU comes out with more like this since this will probably wear out soon...(hope not!)
I did a 3d Butterfly since it seemed that both of these cards were missing something....
Inspired by Nature
One of the sets they gave us at convention was called Inspired by Nature. I was not intrigued with the project for the Make and takes, but I saw great potential with this set for making some beautiful cards. I don't think that this is in any way, beautiful. It actually started as doing a study in color.
I thought I would make cards in a monotone theme. Each featuring the New In-Colors 08. BUT, after adding some of the NEW DSP, I thought I would just do different colors and then collection of colors to see what I could come up with.
I am more dazzled by this set (and becoming more so!)...and I hope you will like playing with it too! This is using the Pink Pirouette ink with Pixie Pink, along with the Sweet Always DSP I love the strong dark and light pink colors, with the hint of orange.
The next card is blues...not that I am blue, but I love the BAJA Breeze and the Pacific Point Blue.
The background papers are from the Baja Breeze Designer paper collection. The monotone colors make the Pacific Point blue pop more, don't you think? and sponging the tops of the flowers, accents it more...
This one is in Kiwi Kiss...I used Summer Sun all over, and then sponged More Mustard on the petals, and then chocolate chip on the centers, with Kiwi Kiss on the leaves and stems and then shadowed with Chocolate chip. The Kiwi kiss background paper comes from the Bella Rose DSP Collection...
I cut off 1/2 the front, so that the Top Notes Die is more enhanced and featured on the front.
Now, this one,.....I was really experimenting with more colors....I used Riding Hood Red on the petals, More Mustard, and Chocolate Chip on the centers, and then Kiwi Kiss on the petals with Chocolate on the leaves as shadows. I really love this one. I think the flower centers have more fluffiness to it, making it look more real and the ribbon is the Kiwi Kiss Vanilla satin ribbon.
this is a really lovely ribbon- thick and heavy but feels rich!
A full size view of this card...I think it is my favorite!
